Rediscovering the Groove: A Deep and Soulful House Lockdown Session

(5 Hours of) Lockdown Relived

The lockdown days were unlike anything we’d ever experienced—a global pause that confined us to our homes and gave us more time to reflect, connect, and create. For me, music became my anchor. With so much free time, I turned to live streaming, sharing my love for deep house and soulful house music with an online audience that was just as hungry for connection and good vibes.

Those live sessions were raw, intimate, and unapologetically real. They weren’t about flashy setups or perfect mixes—they were about creating a space for people to connect through music, even while we were all physically apart. Recently, I came across a recording of one of these sessions and felt a rush of nostalgia. Unfortunately, my previous channel, where I’d shared so much of this content, no longer exists. But this recording felt too special to leave forgotten, so I’m bringing it back to life.

What to Expect from This Session

This isn’t just a random DJ set—well, actually it is BUT it’s also a slice of lockdown history. In this session, my friend JK and I kicked back in the front room, and just enjoyed music (as well as the company of each other and the many others who tuned in online from around the world. It’s an organic blend of smooth, soulful beats and deep, groove-heavy rhythms, the kind of tracks that make you close your eyes and let the music transport you.

If you’re a fan of artists like Kerri Chandler, Louie Vega, or Atjazz, or if you vibe with iconic house labels like Defected, Soul Heaven, or Quantize Recordings, this session is for you. It’s a journey through the best of soulful house music, with moments that uplift, energize, and soothe all at once.

Why Soulful and Deep House?

As a soulful house DJ, these genres an appeal that deeply inspires me—not just as a listener, but as a curator of music for the entertainment of others. For me, soulful house is more than just music; it’s an expression of emotion. There’s a spiritual element to it, a connection that comes from its roots in gospel and funk—the kind of energy that lifts you up and brings people together.

Deep house, on the other hand, offers a different but equally powerful experience. It’s hypnotic, with warm, rolling basslines, textured layers, and understated yet deeply impactful beats. It’s music that doesn’t just invite you to move—it draws you into a meditative, almost transcendental space. Add in those subtle funk influences—the syncopation, the rhythm, the groove—and you’ve got a sound that feels timeless yet fresh every time.

For me, these genres are the perfect fusion of the uplifting energy of gospel, the raw funk grooves that make your body move, and the deep, sense of belonging, even when alone. I could be spinning for a crowd, chilling with friends, or just unwinding at home, this music is always my go-to. It’s music with heart and soul, and music that reminds me why I fell in love with DJing in the first place.

During the lockdown, these sounds became a source of comfort—not just for me but for many who tuned in to my streams. They provided an escape, a way to reconnect with ourselves and each other. And now, I’m excited to share that energy with you again.
